Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee Becomes a First-Time Sponsor of the Okeechobee Youth Livestock Show
April 15, 2023

Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee is happy to begin a new partnership with the Okeechobee Youth Livestock Show (OYLS) for the year of 2023 by sponsoring this year’s event.  OYLS runs concurrently each year in Okeechobee County with the annual fair.  This allows thousands of residents to attend and support the initiatives of both organizations throughout the week of spring break.

To further our partnership, and help educate attendees, the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County choose to become a 2023 Sponsor. Representatives from the TFP and SWAT Youth Ambassadors were present and had the opportunity to network, interact, and educate with attendees one-on-one within the arena.

This event gave the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County and SWAT Youth the opportunity to reach a very large crowd where tobacco use is a social norm. It provided members the chance to better educate attendees on the initiatives and goals of the TFP, as well as share Quit Your Way information.

THE OKEECHOBEE YOUTH LIVESTOCK SHOW, INC. is a not-for-profit organization seeking to promote and educate the young people of Okeechobee County, primarily in the field of agriculture and community development, since 1969. The foundation of our organization is our annual Livestock Show and Sale held at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center in March of every year. This weeklong event is full of livestock show activities and culminates on the third Saturday of March with a livestock auction. The participants, approximately 300 students from 5 to 18 years old, are local youth who proudly show the animals they have raised as an Okeechobee 4-H or FFA project. Upon entry to the show, the animals are on display for the patrons of the Okeechobee County Fair to enjoy throughout the week. The students exhibit their rabbits, poultry, goats, beef breeding cattle, steers, swine, and dairy cattle for the coveted title of Grand Champion. In addition, the exhibitors also compete in a showmanship contest and a herdsman competition.

The Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County is dedicated to the creation of tobacco-free social norms through a combination of community education, youth advocacy and changes in local tobacco policies.  The mission of the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County reflects the goals of the CDC Best Practices, especially in regard to changes in local tobacco policies to create and promote tobacco-free social norms.
