The Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County Participated in the "Live" County Fair!
April 3, 2021

The Okeechobee County Fair and Youth Livestock show is back, and residents are happy to finally attend community events.  This year’s fair and livestock show had record attendance, in excess of 25,000 attendees of the fair alone, and the Tobacco Free Partnership was excited to be a part of this event. The fair was held March 16th through March 21st and the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee was thrilled to partner with the fair for the 3rd year and offer breathe easy zones and signage at the fair.

To further our partnership, and help educate attendees, the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County choose to become a 2021 Sponsor. In addition to signage on the ticket booth and inside the fairgrounds, our members were able to set up an educational area, which gave members the opportunity to welcome and greet attendees and livestock show participants as they entered the event.  Representatives from the TFP and SWAT Youth Ambassadors were present and had the opportunity to network, interact, and educate with attendees one-on-one within the arena.

This event gave the Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County and SWAT Youth the opportunity to reach a very large crowd where tobacco use is a social norm. It provided members the chance to better educate attendees on the initiatives and goals of the TFP, as well as share Quit Your Way information.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to engage and educate community organizations, local businesses, elected officials and community members on the goals and objectives of the SWAT Program and our local tobacco education program.” Says Courtney Moyett, Tobacco Prevention Specialist. “It serves as a great platform to educate and empower our community members to learn more and become involved in tobacco initiatives in Okeechobee County to help prevent another generation of tobacco addiction.”
