The Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee County Continues Community Education and Outreach
December 11, 2020

In “Pre-Covid-19” years, finding local activities to sponsor and support has never been an issue.  However, since the Covid-19 Pandemic began, the number of events happening in Okeechobee has been limited. So, when member of the Tobacco Free Partnership (TFP) of Okeechobee heard that the Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee is going to continue on with the Santa in the Park event, we jumped on the opportunity to sponsor this wonderful event.

This event is free to the community, Kids and family members get a chance to come and talk with Santa, and then get a free printed out picture with Santa.  A Kiwanis representative said, “Although the set up will be different than years past, we are excited that we found a way to still allow families to see Santa and get a picture with him.  In years past, children would sit with Santa on a sleigh to get their pictures.  This year Santa will be in a chair alone, and children will sit on socially distant boxes wrapped like presents in order to get a safe picture with Santa.  This event has always been outside in open door spaces, so making socially distant modifications were an easy work around.”

The Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee sponsored the event and spoke to parents and youth about how community members can help establish policy change within our community that promotes tobacco free social norms.
